David Balogh
photographer

I was born in 1992 in Budapest. I started my career at a Hungarian tabloid magazine, then gained further experience at a daily newspaper. Over time, I realised that my true passion lies in sports photography. In 2016, I began working with a Hungarian football team, and since then I’ve been focusing primarily on capturing sporting events for newspapers and agencies as a stringer.
My goal is to freeze intensity, emotion, and movement into single frames that tell compelling stories — whether it’s football, athletics, water polo or fencing, I always aim to be in the right place at the right time to capture the moments that define a match, an athlete, or even a career.
Although my heart belongs to sport, I photograph everything from breaking news to everyday life. I believe that powerful visual storytelling can emerge from any situation — whether it’s the drama of a stadium or the quiet moments of street life.
My work has been recognised with numerous awards. I was a finalist in the Sports Action category of the 2022 Picture of the Year (POY80) competition and a World Photography Organisation honoree. I placed third in the IPA Photo Competition, and three of my images were finalists in the 2023 World Sports Photography Competition. I’ve won the Hungarian Press Photography Competition three times, including first place in the Sports category in 2023. I also received the Special Jury Prize at the Hungary365 Photo Competition in both 2023 and 2024.
For me, photography is more than work – it’s a way to connect with the world, to witness its raw energy, emotion, and beauty, and to share those moments with others.
